Soft Machine : Volumes One & Two  UK, 1973 - LPx2 - Probe GTSP 204 - ORIGINAL UK 1973 DOUBLE VINYL ISSUE LP OF TWO SEPARATE ALBUMS ORIGINALLY RELEASED IN 1968 & 1969 - YELLOW AND BLACK FIRST LABEL SOFT MACHINE's first two studio albums contain some of their best work. They demonstrate a progression from R'n'B psychedelia, increasingly heavily flavored by Mike Ratledge's free jazz improv tempered by modern serious music, towards their own idiosyncratic folk and jazz fusion. The first album is very much in the psychedelic vein. In the instrumental section of "Volume Two" they are found freely blending modern jazz with modern rock sensibilities, with more than a hint of heavy abstract stylings. Rupert and David (Rupert Hine / Jimmy Page) : The Sound of Silence / Reflections Of Our Love UK, 1965 - 7" CS - Decca F 12306 - demo/promo copy - ultra rare Rupert Hine debut single from 1965 - personnel included a young Jimmy Page, Herbie Flowers on bass and a 26-piece orchestra - in the early sixties, Rupert and David used to perform in pubs and clubs where the then relatively unknown Paul Simon would also play. Both versions of 'The Sound Of Silence' were released in England at the same time. Neither of them sold more than 2,000 copies (Simon only later became famous with this song thanks to Dylan's producer Bob Johnstone who added electric guitars, bass and drums to the track) - comes in CS (ex) Condition: nm 100 € |
